Eleven Hundred protesters, most of them of various Christian denominations, marched from the
State of Illinois Building to Federal Plaza on May 22nd to protest Abortion,
FOCA, the destruction of human embryos for research and Gay Marriage. |

Americans for Life
,
an activist organization lead by Dick Walsh who is chairman of its steering
committee, organized this March for Life. Above at the podium are Pro-Life's
prominent and visible Joe Scheidler and MC of the event and radio talk show host
Sandy Rios. |

To the left and below are a few of the religious who were present for this
march. Not included in these two photos are the priests and ministers who spoke
at the event as well, perhaps, as other less visible priests, nuns and ministers. |

|
Sandy Rios began the event by leading
this diverse, yet mostly Christian, group in silent prayer for several different
petitions of God. The prayers were followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Then, Sandy introduced Jean McCormick Waterman, who led the marchers in the National
Anthem. Her powerful and magical voice joined with those who had come to defend
the rights of the unborn was more beautiful than I can describe. Below is
Jean McCormick Waterman at the podium with Sandy. |

Abortion Protesters marched on the sidewalk down Clark Street from Randolph
Street to Adams Street with the pro-choice, pro-gay marriage counter protesters
bull horning anti- Catholic vulgarity and chanting accusations of bigotry and
homophobia at the protesters. Federal Plaza had been
equipped with a public
address system. Following is the impressive array of speakers who presented
their talks against a background of counter protest chanting. |

The opposition, photographs below, were few in number (about 26) but,
equipped
with bull horns, were louder than were the abortion protesters who were
also
equipped with bull horns and who outnumbered the opposition to an extreme
(1100). |

Throughout the demonstration pro-life and pro-choice groups, were kept on
opposite sides of the street by the police. The opposing groups engaged in
shouting and sign waving matches. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Chicago's riot police kept the demonstrators apart by forming a human barrier between
the two groups. |

There was no violence and
nobody was arrested. However, a paddy wagon was present and ready for use. |
